This month, Germany inaugurated the world’s first hydrogen-fuel-cell powered train. France’s TGV train has been racing since 1981. A decade ago, it ran at 574.8 kph (357.2 mph). Hong Kong is now connected with the rest of China with trains that hum up to 350 kph.
Meanwhile, many, including Amtrak, lament that American trains still use 40-year-old technology. Amtrak trains still can’t break the 250 kph barrier.
