The Daily CSX: Since last summer, 50 CSX rail cars still stopped in heart of downtown Dunkirk, New York

About eight months ago, some 50 CSX rail cars pulled into downtown Dunkirk, N.Y. They stopped right there, and they stayed there — through the rest of summer, into fall, and then all through the long, snowy winter so far.

The empty, rusty railroad cars, many tagged with graffiti, are visible from much of downtown Dunkirk as they stretch along an elevated railroad line that crosses Central Avenue. They even block views of the Lake Erie waterfront, where the city hopes to attract tourists when the weather warms up.
