MassDOT: 30-Year-Old Rail Cars Connecticut Is Leasing Not Worth Repairing

The 30-year-old rail cars Connecticut is spending $4.45 million to renovate and lease for the new Hartford Line commuter service were described by Massachusetts officials in 2011 as not worth the cost to rehabilitate.

“The floors are in poor condition, particularly near the restrooms, with much of the plymetal completely rotted and portions of the wood crumbling,” according to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s “Commuter Rail Fleet Management Plan” issued seven years ago.
