Layne: Amtrak’s return to Roanoke part of new Virginia economy

When Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 176 blows its horn and departs from downtown Roanoke at 6:19 a.m. Halloween morning, it will signal more than the return of passenger rail service to the Star City for the first time since 1979.

It puts an exclamation point on the work the McAuliffe Administration has done to build the New Virginia Economy through multi-modal, competitive travel options for all Virginians – an economy that’s more diversified and better able to create jobs and opportunities.
