India: In A First Of Its Kind Initiative, An All-Woman Team Is Maintaining Railway Safety In Kerala

There are still some professions that are considered more suitable for men than women. But women have been breaking stereotypes left right and centre by taking up ‘unorthodox’ jobs. An all-woman’s team in Kerala is responsible for train maintenance and passenger safety. They are the ones who carry out mechanical checks and take care of any mechanical glitches that might occur in a train. 

28-year-old railway employee Krishnendu KV apparently said, “Initially I was scared of getting under the trains, but with practice, things have become easier. It is unheard of that women are responsible for entire rakes.”
