FRA hosts positive train control meeting

A LITTLE MORE CONVERSATION: FRA today is hosting representatives from the 41 railroads that must implement positive train control, in an attempt to get everyone on the same page regarding milestones for the Dec. 31 deadline to qualify for additional compliance time. Industry officials anticipate certain issues coming up, including the template for railroads to demonstrate they’ve met the criteria to qualify for extensions out to 2020; guidance for railroads applying to begin revenue service demonstration; and more information about what might constitute “other criteria” a commuter railroad could meet to comply with the law. “I’d say that most of this is happening kind of railroad to railroad — tenant to host, or when two railroads are interfacing with each other at borders — but FRA is helping to make sure we are all communicating and sort of telling the same story to each other,” said Stephen Gardner, Amtrak executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
