Derailed Washington State train was first of new route, added service

The train that derailed Monday morning was the first Amtrak Cascades high-speed train to use a new routing on the line’s Seattle-Portland trip.

It also appeared to be using one of eight new Siemens Charger locomotives, a quicker, modern engine just put into service weeks ago.
