Central America: Mexico rolling on with prolific portfolio of passenger rail projects

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO) passenger railway portfolio could eventually include more than 15 projects, as the government moves forward with planning existing initiatives and proposals are made for new developments. 

In addition to the ongoing US$6.7bn Maya passenger train, the US$1bn Tehuantepec isthmus interoceanic corridor rail line, which will transport both cargo and passengers, and the 30bn-peso (US$1.3bn) Mexico-Toluca interurban train, the Mexican government has various other proposals on the table.
