Amtrak commits to another year of the Southwest Chief on current route with no changes

U.S. Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Tom Udall (D-New Mexico), members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, questioned Amtrak officials Oct. 3 on the future of the Southwest Chief, where they committed to operating this line through FY19.

Udall asked, directly, about the possible use of buses in parts of Kansas, all of New Mexico and parts of Arizona along the Southwest Chief line. The answer he received from Scot Naparstek, Executive Vice President and Chief Officer for Amtrak, said that for the year 2019 that plan would not come to fruition.
