Amtrak asks for changes to rules governing operation of Portal Bridge in New Jersey

Amtrak is requesting the United States Coast Guard change the rules governing the operation of the 108-year-old Portal North Bridge.

New Jersey Transit and Amtrak carry about 206,000 passengers on an average day over the Portal Bridge, Amtrak chief deputy engineer of structures Paul DelSignore said in a letter to Coast Guard Cmdr. Chris Bisignano.
