San Francisco officials delayed millions in funding for Muni’s troubled new rail fleet on Tuesday, as the transit system’s chief announced a sweeping safety measure: Train operators will lock the rear doors of the new vehicles so that passengers won’t get stuck.
That precaution came as Muni reels from a recent mishap in which a woman’s hand got trapped in a door of one of the new Siemens trains. The woman was dragged several feet before prying her hand loose and falling to the track.
