Butte-Silver Bow has officially joined a multi-county authority to help facilitate and oversee a hoped-for return of passenger rail service through southern Montana.
On a 12-0 vote Wednesday night, commissioners approved a joint resolution that would establish the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority.

Missoula and Gallatin counties adopted the resolution last week and Park and Broadwater counties have public hearings on the issue next week. Other counties that have signaled strong interest in joining are Dawson, Carbon, Big Horn, Prairie, Wibaux, Sanders and Jefferson, but all must approve the same resolution to join.
