If Metrolink becomes the beneficiary of billions of dollars slated for the state’s bullet train, the money could improve rail lines from Burbank to Anaheim, introducing zero-emission trains and offering faster and more frequent service to millions more riders between Los Angeles and Orange counties.
At the request of the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which oversees the bullet train project, Metrolink recently provided a report summarizing $9.4 billion in improvements it says are needed in that corridor through 2028. Those improvements would help Metrolink double ridership, and pave the way for the promised high-speed line some officials maintain will someday run from Sacramento to San Diego.
