Amtrak has a base of loyal customers that many other businesses would love to have. Unfortunately for Amtrak, that base is too small. On top of that, much of its equipment is outdated. And the nation’s only national passenger railroad needs an influx of new cash.
A little over a year ago, Amtrak brought in Richard Anderson, a former CEO of Delta Air Lines, to be its new chief executive. Anderson saw several changes that he thought needed to be made to bring the railroad closer to financial self-sufficiency.
