For weeks, hundreds of NJ Transit employees, who have kept trains and buses running amid a pandemic that has wreaked deadly havoc on their ranks and the region, have also had trouble getting paid.
As NJ Transit’s workforce grapples with illness, they also have to contend with outdated systems whose shortcomings have been thrown into stark release by the crisis — an issue that has plagued state and national agencies around the country.
