Former Rep. Todd Rokita of Indiana faced tough questioning during a Senate panel hearing on his nomination to the Amtrak board of directors Wednesday.
Rokita was scrutinized for two previous votes to end public funding for Amtrak while a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. But Rokita told the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation he favored a robust passenger train system and was simply trying to send Amtrak a message to spend its allocated funds responsibly.
