Railway advocacy groups in Harrison County and Marshall issued a plea of concern Tuesday in reaction to the April 27 announcement that Amtrak would be eliminating the paid staffing at the Marshall station as of June 29.
The announcement stated several stations in 15 cities nationwide, including Texarkana, Meridian and Cincinnati would be unstaffed within the next two months, replacing trained customer service representatives (ticket agents) with station caretakers whose only duty would be to lock and unlock the waiting room.
