Two components of Amtrak’s Gateway boondoggle — plans to dig a new Hudson tunnel costing $13.4 billion along with a $1.6 billion Portal North Bridge on the Hackensack River — just got flunked again by the Federal Transit Administration.
Since the legal two-year period to earn passing ratings has now expired, the projects are dead unless the feds grant a time extension. But unless the plans change, what’s the point?
