Should Brandon Bostian go to jail? The 34-year-old engineer was at the helm of the Amtrak train that derailed in May 2015 as it rounded the Frankford Curve in Port Richmond, killing eight people and injuring more than 150. The train was traveling at 106 mph at the time — on a section of track requiring trains to travel less than half that speed.
Bostian was neither impaired by drugs or alcohol nor distracted by a cell phone, though a National Transportation Safety Board review found that he may have been disoriented by reports of rocks being thrown at SEPTA trains.
