Three upstate members of Congress are asking Amtrak to reconsider a policy change that prompted the company’s decision to stop operating the Toys for Tots train, which distributes winter clothes, toys and other items to upstate families every year.
In a letter sent Thursday to Amtrak president and CEO Richard Anderson, U.S. Reps. John Faso, Elise Stefanik and Paul Tonko said the train is “a beloved and endearing resource that many of our region’s neediest families rely on.” Ending the service would hurt these families and bring an end to “a positive charitable action that has brought great recognition to Amtrak’s reputation in the eyes of many.”
