New Jersey Transit caught up on roughly $189 million it owed to Amtrak for the use of New York Penn Station and the Northeast Corridor rail line, Gov. Phil Murphy and several senior state transportation officials announced Wednesday morning.
The payments comprised an “accrual of unpaid contributions to capital and operating expenses,” according to Amtrak Board Chair Tony Coscia, and under an agreement between the two transit agencies, the payments will be used toward improvement to Penn Station.
