Whispers of NJ Transit fare hikes are, in part, the reason the state Senate is launching a probe of the struggling agency, the future investigating committee’s chairman said Tuesday.
“We charge more for a commuter system than any other area around here, and now we’re talking about charging more, and it isn’t working right — that’s not a formula for success,” said Senate President Stephen Sweeney, who said the investigation would likely begin after the elections, in late November or early December. “The time of talking about things is long past, and it’s really time to figure it out, come up with solutions and move forward.”
