The firm that wants to redevelop the Finkl steel site and neighboring properties—maybe even into a second headquarters for Amazon, if it gets lucky—has asked the U.S. government to make sure railroad cars never rumble across its property again.
Sterling Bay filed a formal application with the federal Surface Transportation Board requesting that it order a Chicago railroad company to abandon tracks that run through the Finkl parcel, a prime 28-acre piece of real estate on the North Branch of the Chicago River between Lincoln Park and Bucktown.
