Amtrak finally has issued a detailed explanation of just what went wrong on Feb. 28 when a signal outage at Union Station clobbered 100,000 rush-hour commuters, and the finger-pointing paper is not sitting well with a key area congressman, who wants Amtrak to reimburse Metra riders for their trouble.
The exchange of letters between Amtrak and Southwest Side U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski marks a new low in increasingly hostile relations between the rail service, which needs Congress on its side in budget fights with the Trump administration, and Lipinski, who took over as chairman of the House railroad subcommittee this year.
