A new 900-foot rail bridge over the San Diego River opened to train traffic Monday, a symbolic milestone in the effort to improve travel times along the heavily trafficked LOSSAN rail corridor that stretches as far north as San Luis Obispo.
The 351-mile rail line is the second-busiest, intercity rail line in the country, with an annual passenger load of more than 7 million. It’s only smaller than the Northeastern Corridor, which serves more than 11 million riders a year in Boston and Washington D.C.
