BOSTON — Keolis Commuter Services and the MBTA say they’re prepared to keep the rail system running properly when the leaves begin to fall, making the tracks exceptionally slippery.
Keolis and the MBTA have new equipment that will help prevent slippery rail, which occurs when leaves and debris fall onto the track, Keolis said in a statement released Friday. As trains pass, the wheels crush the leaves create a slick film on the track. Trains need to begin braking for stops sooner and take more time to re-gain speed, making the trip longer and sometimes causing delays.
