Now it’s official. Printed railroad passenger timetables have followed steam locomotives, cabooses, Railway Post Office cars and high-button shoes into oblivion.
I should have known this was coming when Amtrak announced that effective on Dec. 21, 2016, the ticket office in Huntington’s 8th Avenue station would close permanently. Now, the station is staffed by a caretaker who opens the station an hour before and closes it 30 minutes after passage of Amtrak’s Cardinal – eastbound in the morning and westbound at night.
