Amtrak dome car that was to operate on Adirondack damaged in Maine

Rensselaer –  Amtrak’s “great dome car,” a glass-topped 1950s-era passenger rail car that operates on some of the railroad’s most scenic routes and was to begin service out of Albany on Thursday, was damaged in recent days when it struck a low-hanging tree while operating in Maine, an Amtrak spokesman confirmed.

A forward facing glass panel was broken, but it wasn’t clear whether there were any injuries or other damage. The Amtrak spokesman, Jason Abrams, said the car was now in a repair shop, although it wasn’t immediately clear how quickly, or whether, it will be back in service.
