Mothballing rail cars in Adirondacks still wrong
After a Chicago-based railroad company backed down on its terrible plan to turn part of the Adirondacks into a parking lot for old oil tanker cars, it has a new, equally bad idea: using idle rail lines to indefinitely store old rail cars.
The financially struggling Iowa Pacific Holdings is preparing to have the cars brought to rail lines it owns in Essex County. Some of the same people who successfully blocked the storage of old tank cars in 2015 are waging a new battle to stop the current plan. They deserve support.
