On Thursday, the Amtrak station in Ettrick was the liveliest place in a fading village.
More than a dozen Marines from Fort Lee waited for the train that would take them to Camp Lejeune, joined by pockets of other passengers in the waiting room of a station that dates back to 1955. Overlooking them all was a mural representing the previous 1903 train depot, flanked by a steam locomotive and a modern-day Amtrak train.
