CSX Corp. will be appointing a senior-level safety administrator and hiring a safety consulting company, CEO Jim Foote said during the annual shareholder conference, held in Jacksonville’s Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center Friday.
The moves are part of hitting the goal of becoming the “best run railroad in North America” in safety, customer service and efficiency, Foote said, and come in the wake of a fatal Amtrak derailment on a CSX line and the death of an employee who died while working on CSX equipment.

CSX Corp. (Nasdaq: CSX) shareholders are gathering at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center Friday to decide on five main issues, one of which has prompted competing advice from influential proxy advisors.
On the table at this year’s shareholder conference are: electing board members, appointing an accounting firm, approving last year’s executive pay, approving a stock purchase plan and taking up topics that come up at the meeting.
