Editor’s Note: Here’s a fun story – the typical train versus plane comparison – about a father and daughter on Amtrak’s Silver Star and the wife/mother on a JetBlue flight. What makes this story fun is the author is a seasoned, worldwide traveler who apparently spends 99% of his travel time on airplanes and the wonderment he expresses at the joys of a new Viewliner sleeping car. He seems to like flexible dining because he compares it favorably to airline food, which is probably the only valid comparison that should be made. Read the story and witness the joy of an overnight in a Viewliner first-timer.

Washington, D.C. is one of my favorite spots to visit. Not only is it a short (and normally inexpensive) flight from my home state of Florida, but the city has a ton to offer — from memorials to museums to outstanding cuisine.
