SunRail which is run by the Florida Department of Transportation, could remain under state control for an extra year, further delaying a decision on a DeLand station.
The Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission — the body comprised of the five local government partners, including Volusia County — voted Thursday on language to hire a transition consultant ahead of the transfer of control to the locals. That could keep the system under state control until May 2022 or later. SunRail’s initial agreement had called for the state to operate it for the first seven years, starting in 2014.
