Rail ‘loop’ proposed for northeastern Ontario

By Elaine Della-Mattia, North Bay Nugget; March 27, 2018

Rail advocates will gather in Sault Ste. Marie in April to address how to get passenger service back on the tracks in Northern Ontario.

Three rail advocate groups are co-ordinating the April 19 event, which will provide an opportunity for representatives from First Nations, municipalities, post-secondary institutions, health care organizations and others to share ideas on how to restore and modernize passenger rail service on existing rail beds in northeastern Ontario.

The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains (CAPT) is joined by the Northeastern Ontario Rail Network (NEORN) and the Committee Promoting Muskoka Rail Travel (CPMRT) for the summit.
