Ontario: Train groups continue lobby efforts for North

City council has thrown their support behind efforts to renew passenger train service in Northern Ontario – again.

But at least one city councillor cautions the lobby groups that while petitions, letters and resolutions are good, they’re not enough to secure effective change.

Instead, Ward 1 Coun. Steve Butland, the city’s former member of Parliament, urged the group to ask MP Terry Sheehan to establish a face-to-face meeting with the ministers and decision makers responsible and send a delegation to Ottawa to deliver the need for passenger train service directly.
