Amtrak is cutting back the hours its ticket agent is available in La Junta and eliminating ticket sales entirely at its Garden City, Kan., station — steps that some local officials see as further signs Amtrak intends to shrink its support for the Southwest Chief passenger train service.
Amtrak used to have seven-day service selling tickets at La Junta, but has now cut that to reduced hours, Monday through Friday. A ticket agent will no longer be there on weekends.
