Washington’s Merry-Go-Round on ‘Stop’

“Knock, knock.” Seriously, if you’re awaiting a “Who’s there?” response from many railroad-important federal agencies, you ain’t gonna get one, because, quite literally, there’s nobody there.

Congress, also, is effectively closed for business, awaiting the swearing-in of new members and start of a new session on Jan. 3, when Democrats become the House majority, Republicans resume control of the Senate, and both chambers renew an already calamitous exertion to cobble together a funding package to end the shutdown with legislation that nobody really knows if—given a previous White House flip-flop—President Trump will sign.
