United Airlines changes up cheeseburger for third time

Editor’s Note: Yes, this is a story about a legacy airline and the food it serves to its passengers. Why is there an airline story on a website totally devoted to the business of passenger rail and the railroad industry in general? Because it’s instructive to see what other common carriers in North America are choosing to do with their food service in light of the many current struggles Amtrak has with its dining car and cafe car services. While Amtrak contracts choices and offers smaller portions, other are expanding.

In October, United Airlines will change up its popular economy class cheeseburger option for the third time since it was introduced in June 2017.

The newest version, which the airline will sell for $10 onboard lunch and dinner time flights longer than three hours, is now doubly cheesy, with a new Asiago cheese bun and white cheddar topping a Angus beef patty inside.  The 6 oz. sandwich will be served with lettuce, tomato and pickles plus Sir Kensington’s condiments, which include chipotle mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard.
