Plans for new Petersburg, Virginia train station are sidetracked

Plans to build a new passenger train station in the Tri-City area appear to have been sidetracked for now with the announcement by the Federal Railroad Administration that it has suspended an environmental assessment on the project.

The Tri-Cities Metropolitan Planning Organization received a letter last month from the FRA saying that it was not moving ahead with the study but did not say why. Nor did it say what the overall status of the project was as a result of the study suspension.
