West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin voices concerns about Amtrak decision to de-staff ticket station

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is calling on Amtrak President Richard Anderson to postpone plans to de-staff the Charleston station after June 6, saying he has “serious concerns” about criteria used in making the critical decision.

In a letter to Anderson, Manchin states, “I write you to voice my strong objections over Amtrak’s decision to remove its ticket agent from the station in Charleston, W.Va., effective June 6. This decision will not only deprive the state of West Virginia of its last Amtrak ticket agent, but will also compromise safety and upkeep of the facility, and make access more difficult for potential customers. I have serious concerns about Amtrak’s criteria for making this critical decision, and am urging you to postpone any final decision on this matter until we can agree on the fundamental facts as to how ticket sales and daily ridership are calculated.”
