U.S., Florida: Brightline replacing rusting downtown Melbourne train bridge with twin steel bridges

Like an enormous piston belching blue smoke, a pile driver is noisily pounding foundation supports 85 feet below ground level near the south bank of Crane Creek, building a crane platform so workers can replace the rusting railroad bridge.

Brightline will scrap Melbourne’s aging Crane Creek trestle bridge — which dates to the 1920s — and replace it with two new steel-and-concrete bridges. Construction kicked off in July, and the $17 million project is scheduled to wrap up in May 2022.
