U.S.: Amtrak service cuts expected to cost Virginians $142 million each year

WASHINGTON (WFXR) — Amtrak plans to reduce service on its long-distance routes — which provides transportation for 40 percent of the nation’s small and rural communities. According to new research release by the Rail Passengers Association, this plan will cost Virginians $142 million each year due to a loss of approximately 326,000 passengers.

Earlier this month, members of Rail Passenger say they testified before Congress that Amtrak’s impending service cuts to America’s Heartland will be devastating across at least 30 states, dropping “a $2 billion bomb on “Flyover Country.”
