TIGER grants program being replaced

TIGER’S LAST ROAR?: Less than a month after Congress tripled funding for the TIGER grant program, DOT announced that TIGER is over, being replaced with a new discretionary grant program with a heavy rural focus. The Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development program would still focus on surface transportation, though rural broadband could hitch a ride on an eligible transportation project. At least 30 percent of BUILD funds will go to projects in rural areas. Applicants can bone up on the new guidelines with a series of DOT-hosted webinars ahead of the first deadline July 19.
