The right way in New York and New Jersey: Gateway boondoggle must scale back and fix the Hudson tunnels now

On Tuesday, the Amtrak officials pushing the railway’s $30 billion Gateway boondoggle will be in Washington meeting with congressional delegations from New York and New Jersey.

Instead of just pounding the table against the big bad Trump administration for not writing a check to fix a supposedly urgent infrastructure problem, the members should demand the right kind of action — pressing Amtrak to repair its Sandy-damaged Hudson tunnels in place, right now, just as the MTA is doing for its Sandy-damaged L-train East River tubes.
