The reality of people ignoring gates, flashing lights, bells, whistles, and oncoming trains: New safety features would not prevent Brightline fatalities

New safety measures being put in place along railroad crossings would not have prevented a Boynton Beach man from being struck and killed by a Brightline train, the rail line said Thursday.

The red lights were on Wednesday before Jeffrey D. King was killed while riding his bicycle over the tracks. The arms were down on the gates preventing vehicles from crossing into the path of the oncoming train. And the train’s engineer was blowing the whistle, as federal regulations require.
