The graveyard shift at New York City’s Penn Station

Most of us who use Penn Station in New York think of it as a necessary evil.

Before they lopped off the top to build Madison Square Garden, it was a beautiful and historic train station (so they say … I’m too young to have seen it). Now it’s just a characterless jumble of underground tunnels and gates that serves Amtrak and two commuter railroads.

Earlier this week, I saw a different side of Penn Station.
