Scotland: ScotRail fails again as more than 18,000 trains are cancelled

The number of services cancelled due to staffing issues soared by almost 500 percent. The official figures are the latest damning indictment of Dutch firm Abellio’s stewardship of Scotland’s railway. Critics have repeatedly urged the SNP Government to strip the company of its franchise.

Data from the UK Government’s Office of Rail and Road showed that 18,192 ScotRail trains failed to run at all in 2018/19.
