Rail safety issue not expected to impact Vermont

Despite a dire-sounding story in a national rail publication, local officials say Vermont’s Amtrak lines are in no danger.

Trains, a magazine covering the railroad industry, published a story on its website Monday claiming that Amtrak officials had declared that after Dec. 31, they would no longer operate passenger lines on rail systems that do not use a safety system called passive train control or PTC.
