NTSB: CSX signals were down for PTC upgrades; Ron Batory nomination still on hold

By LAUREN GARDNER, With help from Stephanie Beasley, Brianna Gurciullo and Adrienne Hurst, Politico Morning Transportation; February 6, 2018Batory calls abound: This being the second fatal Amtrak crash in less than week, Republicans are upping the pressure on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to release his hold on Ron Batory, the administration’s pick to lead the FRA. “This worrying spate of accidents offers a sobering reminder that partisan obstruction has kept the Federal Railroad Administration, the top rail regulator, without an administrator,” GOP Leader Mitch McConnell said on the floor Monday. White House spokesman Raj Shah joined the chorus, too: “We call on Senate Democrats, from Sen. Schumer to Sen. [Sherrod] Brown — whose state we’re visiting today — to tell their leadership that it’s well past time to stop putting politics before public safety, and to the bring the president’s eminently qualified nomination up for a vote.” Schumer’s office had nothing new to say on his position Monday night.Click here to read the full story.
