New Jersey Governor Christie says he is confident new Hudson River tunnels will be built

Gov. Chris Christie and federal lawmakers said Friday they’re confident the federal government will make good on its promise to fund half of the almost $30 billion Gateway Project, which would build two new tunnels under the Hudson River and other rail infrastructure.

The governor and officials made the remarks Friday during a ceremony heralding the start of preliminary work that will eventually lead to the replacement of the 107-year-old Portal Bridge that spans the Hackensack River.
